From Kyoto to Your Pocket
Traditional Craft, Designed for Everyday Life
From Kyoto to Your Pocket — Retro Nishijin Everyday Carry is a project that reimagines traditional Japanese Nishijin textiles for modern everyday carry items.
Nishijin weaving has been practiced in Kyoto for over 1,200 years and is known for its intricate patterns, rich textures, and exceptional durability. Historically used for kimono and ceremonial garments, this remarkable fabric represents one of Japan’s most respected textile traditions.
In this project, we bring that heritage into the present.
By combining authentic Nishijin fabric with thoughtful, retro-inspired design, we create compact everyday items that fit naturally into modern life — wallets, small cases, and accessories designed to be carried daily, not stored away.
Our goal is simple:to let traditional craftsmanship live on through daily use.
Rather than preserving Nishijin as something only to be admired from a distance, we believe its beauty should be experienced in everyday moments — pulled from a pocket, held in the hand, and aged naturally over time.
Each piece reflects the skill of Kyoto artisans while offering practicality, durability, and a subtle sense of nostalgia. No two items are exactly the same, allowing the fabric’s character to evolve alongside its owner.
By supporting this project, you help bring Japanese textile heritage beyond museums and into everyday life — from Kyoto, to your pocket.
